Nintendo Co.’s Nintendo 3DS outsold Sony Corp.’s PSP by nearly 5-to-1 in in the latest retail data from Japan.

Media Create Co. this week said the Nintendo 3DS sold 103,962 units between Nov. 7 and Nov. 13 to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the week.

The 3DS ranked one title in the top 10 for the week, including Super Mario 3D Land at No. 4.

Meanwhile, the Nintendo DSi LL sold 1,751 units to rank No. 5, the Nintendo DSi sold 909 to rank No. 8, and the DS Lite sold 20 units to rank No. 9 in the same period.

The PSP sold 23,472 units for the week to rank at No. 2 in Japan.

The PSP ranked three titles in the top 10, including Sega Corp.’s Project Diva Extend at No. 1.

Nintendo in Oct. said it has sold nearly 450,000 Nintendo 3DS units in the U.S. since a price cut to $169.99 in Aug.

New titles for 2011 include Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 Dec. 4.

Nintendo in July began offering streaming functionality by Netflix Inc. and a short-form video service to view 3D movie trailers, comedy clips and music videos.

This Nov., a new system update will offer 3D video recording functionality.

Nintendo launched the Nintendo 3DS handheld with 18 software titles Mar. 27.

The Nintendo 3DS includes 3-D display technology that does not require the use of special glasses.

In addition, the 3DS is backwards compatible with Nintendo DS and DSi games.

The Playstation Vita, to be sold in Feb. 22, 2012, will include the dual analog sticks, a 5-inch multi-touch OLED display, 3G & GPS, front and rear touch panels, and a compass on three axes. It will utilize flash-memory game cards.

Hardware specifications include an ARM Cortex A9 4-core CPU, front camera, rear camera, built-in microphone, and Bluetooth 2.1.

The company will partner with AT&T to allow current customers to access Wi-Fi hotspots nationwide.

The PS Vita Party mode will allow users to chat with nearby owners. In addition, near will allow users to play with friends using their PSN ID.

The Wi-Fi only model will sell at $249.99. The 3G model will sell at $299.99.

Sony in Nov. it began sale of the Limited Edition PSP FIFA 2012 and Cars 2 Entertainment Pack at $159.99.
