Pre-order sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Halo 4 for the Xbox 360 increased this week at Inc. amid building demand for the sequel.

This week, Halo 4 held a 41 percent sales increase to rank at No. 288 in Amazon’s Video Games division.

Halo 4, to be sold in holiday 2012, is the beginning of a brand new trilogy in the franchise.

A prequel, Halo: Reach, was released in 2010.

Microsoft in Nov. began sale of the Xbox 360 250GB Holiday Value Bundle at $299.99.

Microsoft in July said the Entertainment and Devices division, which includes the Xbox business, recorded revenue of $1.48 billion, an increase of $1.41 billion one year earlier.

The division held operating profit of $32 million compared to a loss of $172 million one year ago.
