Apple Inc. this week issued a recall for the first-generation iPod nano due to battery overheating that could pose a safety risk in a new report.

The recall affects iPod nanos sold between Sept. 2005 and Dec. 2006.

Apple will replace the iPod nano via an online replacement program that allows customers to submit their iPod nano serial number to check for eligibility.

The replacement will be facilitated at no cost.

The current iPod nano includes an 8GB capacity, 1.54-inch multi-touch screen, FM Radio, and pedometer starting at $129.99.

Other iPod SKUs include the entry-level iPod Shuffle and the premium iPod Touch.
