Customers of Apple Inc.’s iPhone 4S this week claimed the company’s iOS 5.0.1 update does not fix a recent battery drain said to plague select devices.
In addition, the update promptednew claims of incorrect contact information during a received call and Wi-Fi signal issues.
Apple issued a statement Fri. that said the iOS 5 update addressed many of battery issues experienced on iOS5 devices and that it will continue to investigate a few remaining issues.
The iOS 5.0.1 update, released this week, was said to fix the iPhone 4S battery drain bug, add iPad gestures, fix iCloud document bugs, and add new security measures.
In Nov., Apple said it had found a few bugs that were affecting battery life on iOS 5 devices.
A discussion forum at Apple.com claimed the battery life on the iPhone 4S is far less than advertised.
Apple disclaims eight hours of talk time and six hours of internet use via 3G, with standby time of up to 200 hours.
One buyer claimed his iPhone 4S battery life drains at 15 percent per hour while locked and on standby. Another said battery drained 10 percent in 12 to 15 minutes after using iMessage.
Users suspected an issue with location based services, iOS 5, or the new Dual-Core CPU.
The company in Oct. said it sold 4 million iPhone 4S units at launch in the first three days of sale to set a new sales record for the device.
The iPhone 4S began sale at brick and mortar retail stores Oct. 14.
The iPhone 4S includes the A5 Dual-Core CPU, 8MP camera, 1080p HD video recording functionality, iOS 5, and a new voice command protocol called Suri.
Suri can call, text, email, remind, and offer weather, stock, traffic, direction, and definition information via voice commands.
