Google Inc. this week said it will end support for the Gmail App for Research in Motion Ltd.’s Blackberry this month.

The app can still be used by existing users, but will not be available for download or supported by Nov. 22.

It added that Blackberry users can access Gmail through the Blackberry web browser.

A number of setbacks have plagued RIM’s Blackberry products in recent months.

Blackberry users in Oct. suffered a three-day outage in global markets after a core switch failure did not divert to a backup source correctly.

Select U.S. retailers in Sept. discounted Research in Motion Ltd.’s Blackberry Playbook by as much as $200 after slow demand.

RIM in June said the Blackberry Playbook shipped 200,000 units in the fiscal second quarter, below company estimates.
