Sony Corp. this week recorded a climb in Playstation 3 sales in the second quarter despite a steep loss in the games division.
In Q2, the company sold 3.7 million PS3 units, an increase from 3.5 million one year prior.
In addition, the PSP sold 1.7 million units in the quarter, an increase from 1.5 million one year ago.
PS3 software sales held a 37.4 million, up from 35.3 million in year-over-year figures.
PSP software declined to 8.1 million units from 11 million the year prior.
The Consumer Products & Services division, which includes the Playstation business, held an operating loss of $449 million, compared to a profit of $12.5 million one year prior.
Sony held a net less of $350 million for the quarter, a decline from a $398.3 million profit one year ago.
