Motorola Mobility Inc. this week said it will sell the XOOM Family Edition Tablet at Best Buy Co. Inc. retail stores and at at beginning Oct. 16.

The Motorola XOOM Family Edition will include Google Inc.’s Android 3.1 Honeycomb OS, 1GHz Dual-Core CPU, 10.1 IPS HD display, 16GB Memory, 5MP camera with flash and 720p video webcam, front-facing camera, and $40 worth of applications pre-loaded at $379.00.

The Family Edition SKU will include Kid Mode by Zoodles, an application that locks the Home button and allows to only access content deemed acceptable.

In addition, the product will include QuickOffice Pro HD, Adobe Flash, and access to more than 250,000 apps at the Android Market.

Motorola released the XOOM tablet in Mar. 2011. The standard SKU includes Wi-Fi functionality and 32GB storage at $499.99 or 3G functionality and 32GB storage at $599.99. Inc. in Nov. will release the Kindle Fire, which includes a full-color 7-inch multi-touch IPS display, Dual-Core CPU, 8GB Internal Memory, Wi-Fi functionality, and up to eight hours of battery life at $199.00.

Hewlett Packard Co. Aug. 19 price cut the TouchPad 16GB SKU to $99.99 from $499.99 and the 32GB SKU to $149.99 from $599.99 due to lackluster sales.
