Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 hardware retreated this week in the latest Japan retail figures post release of Gears of War 3 in the region.

Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Xbox 360 sold 2,411 units between Sept. 26 and Oct. 2 to rank No. 8 in overall sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 3,897 units the week amid the release of Gears of War 3 one week ago.

Sales of Gears of War 3 fell to the No. 28 rank. It ranked as the No. 4 top-selling title at launch one week prior.

Microsoft in July said the Entertainment and Devices division, which includes the Xbox business, recorded revenue of $1.48 billion, an increase of $1.41 billion one year earlier.

The division held operating profit of $32 million compared to a loss of $172 million one year ago.

Microsoft sold 1.7 million Xbox 360 units in the quarter, an increase of 18 percent from year prior.

Microsoft in Sept. began sale of the new limited edition Xbox 360 320GB Gears of War 3 Bundle at $399.99.

The Xbox 360 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Bundle, to be sold Nov. 8, will include an Xbox 360 320GB SKU with custom Modern Warfare 3 graphics and sounds, two custom wireless controllers, special Avatar items, Bluetooth Headset, and a copy of Modern Warfare 3 at $399.99.

In 2012 it will sell the Xbox 360 Limited Edition Star Wars Kinect Bundle at $449.99.

Current Xbox 360 stand-alone SKUs include the Xbox 360 250GB hardware at $299.99 and the Xbox 360 4GB hardware at $199.99.

Bundle SKUs include the Xbox 360 250GB Kinect Special Edition Bundle at $399.99 and the Xbox 360 4GB with Kinect bundle at $299.99.
