Media Create Co. this week said the Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 ranked No. 2 in hardware sales in the latest Japan retail activity.

The PS3 sold 36,061 units between Sept. 12 to Sept. 18 to rank No. 2 in overall hardware sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 64,786 to rank third the week prior.

The hardware ranked five titles in the top 10, including Bandai Namco Inc.’s Tales of Xilla at No. 2, Capcom Co.’s Resident Evil: Revival Selection at No. 3 and Monster Hunter Freedom HD at No. 6.

Sony Corp. this week said it will deploy the Firmware Update 3.72 to the Playstation Network division of the Playstation 3 soon.

System Software Update 3.72 is a minor update said to improve system stability during use of PS3 format software. In addition, network services have been improved.

Sony Corp. this week said it will sell the Playstation 3 320GB Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception Bundle at $299.99 this Nov.

The Playstation 3 320GB Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception Bundle will include the PS3 320GB SKU, Dualshock 3 Controller, a copy of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, and a 30-day Playstation Plus Membership Trial at $299.99.

Retailer GameStop Corp. this week discounted Sony Corp.’s Playstation Move products for the Playstation 3 by 50 percent in a new peripheral sale.

This week, the Playstation Move holds a discount price of $24.99, 50 percent off the $49.99 MSRP.

In addition, the Move Navigation Controller holds sale price of $14.99, 50 percent off the $29.99 MSRP.

Capcom Co. this week released Resident Evil 4 to the Playstation Network division and the Xbox Live division.

Resident Evil 4 is sold at $19.99 or 1600 Microsoft Points.

Pre-order sales for Konami Corp.’s Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 increased this week at Amazon.com Inc. due to building demand for the product.

The PSP sold 25,129 units for the week to rank at No. 3 in Japan.

The PSP go sold 7 units to rank No. 10 for the week.

The PSP ranked two titles in the top 10, Marvelous Entertainment Inc.’s Grand Knights History at No. 9 and Capcom Co.’s Monster Hunter Diary at No. 10.

Atlus Inc. this week released Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 2 Innocent Sin for Sony Corp.’s PSP to U.S. retail.

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 2 Innocent Sin is the only Persona game to never see a formal release in North America. It will include improved visuals and the option to utilize the original or remix soundtrack and new quests.

Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 hardware remained cold in the latest Japan retail figures.

Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Xbox 360 sold 1,295 units between Sept. 12 and Sept. 18 to rank No. 8 in overall sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 1,219 units the week prior.

The hardware did not rank any titles in the top 10 game sales.

EA Inc. this week said the open Multiplayer Beta for Battlefield 3 will begin Sept. 29.

The Multiplayer Beta will include the Operation Metro Map and the Rush Game Mode.

Microsoft Corp. this week said sales for the Kinect hardware for the Xbox 360 are under par in Japan.

Takashi Sensui, General Manager of the Xbox business in Japan, told The Wall Street Journal this week that sales of the Kinect have not met the company’s initial expectations in the region.

Amazon.com Inc. this week sent invitations to the media for an event to be held Sept. 28 in New York City.

The retailer did not specify details regarding the event, however prior reports indicate the company will announce a new Kindle Tablet to be sold this year.

Amazon.com Inc. this week began a Kindle Library Lending service in 11,000 U.S. public libraries.

The service, facilitated by Overdrive – a digital content solutions company, will allow Kindle customers to download and borrow free books from participating local libraries websites.

Kindle Library Lending will work on any Kindle device and using the free Kindle App.

AT&T Mobility LLC this week said it will sell Samsung Group’s Galaxy S II smartphone in the U.S. Oct. 2 at $199.99 after contract.

The Samsung Galaxy S II includes a 1.2Ghz Dual-Core CPU, 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display, 8MP camera with 1080 high-definition video functionality, 2MP front-facing camera, and an HDMI out.

It will run on AT&T’s HSPA+ 4G network.

onSale, a subsidiary of PC Mall Inc., this week began offering prior customers a second chance to purchase HP Inc.’s TouchPad after it cancelled most product orders due to insufficient supply.

The Chicago, IL-based retailer this week allowed customers to purchase one TouchPad 32GB SKU at $149.99 by inputting their Order ID and e-mail address.

New Windows 8 Developer Tablets have begun to fetch top dollar on eBay after being given away to attendees of Microsoft Corp.’s BUILD conference.

The developer tablet, which includes a pre-release developer preview version of Windows 8, features an Intel Core i5, 4GB RAM, 64GB Solid-State Drive, HDMI, and a 11.6-inch display.

In addition, the auction includes a tablet dock, keyboard, case, and a 12-Month AT&T data contract at a current bid of $2,700.

Apple Inc. this week opened its first retail store in Hong Kong at the International Finance Center Mall in the Central shopping and business district.

THe two-story, 20,000 square-foot store includes a spiraling staircase and views of the Victoria Harbour.

The IFC retail store will be the fifth Apple Store in China.
