Netflix Inc. this week said it will relay its DVD rental business to a new spinoff entity called Qwickster.

Qwickster is said to offer DVD rentals, in addition to game rentals for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3, Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360, and Nintendo Co.’s Wii hardware.

Netflix currently offers the ability to stream movie and TV content to all three consoles.

The company in July announced streaming functionality for the Nintendo 3DS handheld.

The Qwickster service is said to be available in the coming weeks.

Netflix in July increased the fee for streaming and 1 DVD rental to $15.98, an increase from $9.99.

The 60 percent price increase prompted outrage from loyal customers. Netflix this month said it projects to lose 600,000 subscribers in the third quarter due to the price hike.
