Media Create Co. this week said the Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 ranked second in hardware sales in the latest Japan retail activity.

The PS3 sold 33,141 units between Aug. 22 and Aug. 28 to rank No. 2 in overall hardware sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 29,666 to rank third the week prior.

The hardware ranked two titles in the top 10, including Capcom Co.’s Monster Hunter Freedom 3 HD. Version at No. 1 with 287,829 copies sold.

Sony in July posted a $191 million loss in the first quarter amid lower sales of the PS3.

The company sold 1.8 million PS3 units in the quarter, down from 2.4 million one year prior.

It expects to sell 15 million PS3 units in the next fiscal year, an increase from 14.3 units.

Sony in Aug. price cut the PS3 160GB SKU to $249.99.

In addition, the PS3 320GB Move Bundle now sells at $349.99.

Finally, it will sell a new Playstation 3 320GB Infamous 2 Bundle, which will include the PS3 320GB hardware SKU, Infamous 2, a 30-day Playstation Plus trail membership and Dualshock 3 Controller at $299.99.
