Media Create Co. this week said the Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 ranked second in hardware sales in the latest Japan retail activity.
The PS3 sold 18,338 units between Aug. 1 and Aug. 8 to rank No. 2 in overall hardware sales.
By comparison, the hardware sold 20,704 the week prior.
The hardware did not rank any titles in the top 10 game sales for the week.
System Software Update 3.70 will include Auto Online Game Saves and Auto Trophy Sync for Playstation Plus members.
Additional updates include a TV/Video division in the XMB, which will include Netflix, Hulu Plus and VUDU applications, Blu-ray 3D support when accessing Java-based special features, DTS-HD MA, DTS-HD HR decoding/bit stream output when playing 3D Blu-ray titles, and 3D functionality for 3D photos in MPO format.
Finally, the company said System Software Update 6.60 will be released to the PSP shortly.

By comparison, the hardware sold 1,616 units the week prior.
The hardware did not rank any titles in the top 10 game sales.
The Xbox 360 held as the No. 1 best-selling game hardware in the latest U.S. retail data.
NPD Group Inc. this week reported that the Xbox 360 sold 277,000 units in July.
In addition, retail sales for the Xbox 360 platform including hardware, software, and accessories totaled $250 million.
Pre-order sales for Microsoft Corp.’s limited edition Xbox 360 Limited Edition Star Wars Kinect Bundle held in the top 15 sales at Best Buy Co. Inc.’s online division this week due to strong demand of the bundle SKU.

This week, the Star Wars: The Old Republic Collector’s Edition ranked as the No. 2 product in Amazon’s Video Games division.
