Media Create Co. this week said the Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 ranked second in hardware sales in the latest Japan retail activity.
The PS3 sold 20,704 units between July 25 and July 31 to rank No. 2 in overall hardware sales.
By comparison, the hardware sold 23,343 the week prior.
The hardware ranked one title in the top 10, including Konami Corp.’s Powerful Pro Baseball 2011 at No. 7.
PSN Play is a new annual program that will introduce four new titles each consecutive week. Beginning Aug. 23, users can download Capcom Co.’s Street Fighter III Online Edition at $14.99. Subsequent releases include The Baconing Aug. 30 at $14.99, Bloodrayne: Betrayal Sept. 6 at $14.99, and Renegade Ops Sept. 13 at $14.99.
Customers who pre-order each title will receive a DLC and an exclusive dynamic theme for each advanced purchase. Users who pre-order all four titles will receive Payday: The Heist at no additional cost. Playstation Plus members will receive 20 percent off each purchase.
Pre-orders will begin Aug. 9.

In addition, pre-order sales for the Resistance 3 Doomsday Edition SKU for the Playstation 3 ranked in the top 30 this week at Best Buy Co. Inc.’s online division this week amid strong pre-sale demand.
