Developed by Shadow Planet Productions, Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet includes two modes – Campaign and Lantern Run. The campaign includes a movement through multiple worlds to collect new weapon upgrades and fight bosses. Lantern Run is a local or online co-op multiplayer for up to four that requires players to nab a lantern with their spaceship’s hook and speed across to the right and away from shadow tentacles.
The shadow planet is simple imaginative. As a small UFO, users maneuver through tight corridors and pick up weapon upgrades like a gun, claw, and buzz saw. Each tool is required to move through to new areas. For example, the claw can be used to move rocks that are blocking a path, and the buzz saw can saw through a cracked structure. In addition, users are equipped with a scanning beam to update their map and learn about specific items.
Through the world, users will encounter tentacles, explosives organisms, plankton-like vegetation that are attracted to blue light, and boss characters like a large sphere with a weak eye.
In addition, users will pass by yellow circles that act as instant saves points to allow a beam back to last closest location in case the ship explodes.
The Lantern Run mode is an addictive race between up to four players to escape a never-ending creep of shadow tentacles from the left of the screen. Users are required to hook a lantern to their ship’s hook to glide the lantern and ship through enemies and tight spaces. When all the lanterns are dimmed by the tentacles the game ends.
The graphics engine is solid at 60 frames-per-second. The shadow world is a work of art with flat-shaded black organisms that hold a touch of orange to denote danger. Backdrops include purple, orange, and blue hues that compliment the lively black terrain.
Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet is a solid blast. The simple action, creative puzzles, and addictive multiplayer mode offer an action-based challenge in a unique world.
