Media Create Co. this week said the Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 ranked third in hardware sales in the latest Japan retail activity.
The PS3 sold 23,343 units between July 18 and July 24 to rank No. 3 in overall hardware sales.
By comparison, the hardware sold 23,322 the week prior.
The hardware ranked three titles in the top 10, including No More Heroes: Red Zone Edition at No. 3, Konami Corp.’s Powerful Pro Baseball 2011 at No. 5, and Alice: Madness Returns at No. 9.
Sony this week posted a $191 million loss in the first quarter amid lower sales of the Playstation 3.
The company sold 1.8 million PS3 units in the quarter, down from 2.4 million one year prior.
It expects to sell 15 million PS3 units in the next fiscal year, an increase from 14.3 units.
Meanwhile, the PSP sold 1.8 million units in Q1, an increase from 1.2 million one year ago.
The Playstation 2 sold 1.2 million units in the same period.
Tekken Hybrid will include Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Prologue – a new stand-alone fighting game vignette, Tekken Blood Vengeance – 3D a Blu-ray 3D CG Film, and Tekken Tag Tournament HD – an HD remake of the Playstation 2 title.
It will be sold in Nov at $39.99.
Atlus Inc. this week it will include a 4-disc CD soundtrack compilation to pre-orders of SNK Playmore Corp.’s The King of Fighters XIII.
New PS3 Game Downloads include Deadliest Warrior: Legends at $9.99, Back to the Future: The Game Episode 5 (Free), Golden Axe at $4.99, and Section 8: Prejudice Special Offer Bundle at $14.99.
New PS3 Demos include the Deadliest Warrior: Legends Demo and the No More Heroes: Heroes’ Paradise Demo.
New PSP content includes the Fat Princess Anniversary Bundle at $14.99 and the Funky Lab Rat: Challenges Bundle at $2.99.
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 2 Innocent Sin is the only Persona game to never see a formal release in North America. It will include improved visuals and the option to utilize the original or remix soundtrack and new quests.
The final game will include a new interface and new sidequests.
The PSP sold 26,868 units for the week to rank at No. 2 in Japan.
The PSP go sold 14 units to rank No. 10 for the week.
The PSP ranked three titles in the top 10, including Capcom Co.’s Sengoku Basara: Chronicle Heroes at No. 2.
Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 hardware held under 2,000 units in the latest Japan retail figures.
Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Xbox 360 sold 1,546 units between July 18 and July 24 to rank No. 7 in overall sales.
By comparison, the hardware sold 1,734 units the week prior.
The hardware did not rank any titles in the top 10 game sales.
Microsoft this week recorded a profit in the Xbox business amid strong demand for the hardware.
The Entertainment and Devices division, which includes the Xbox business, recorded revenue of $1.48 billion, an increase of $1.41 billion one year earlier.
The division held operating profit of $32 million compared to a loss of $172 million one year ago.
Microsoft sold 1.7 million Xbox 360 units in the quarter, an increase of 18 percent from year prior.

Nintendo Co. this week posted a Q1 loss amid weak sales of the Nintendo 3DS handheld.
Between Apr. and June the company held a net loss of $324 million. For the fiscal year ending Mar. 2012, it expects a profit of $257 million, down 82 percent from a prior forecast.
The company said the hardware, which began sale Mar. 24, has sold 4.32 million units worldwide and 830,000 units in the U.S.
The Nintendo 3DS ranked No. 1 pending a price cut for the handheld in Japan.
