Media Create Co. this week said the Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 ranked third in hardware sales in the latest Japan retail activity.

The PS3 sold 22,900 units between July 4 and July 10 to rank No. 3 in overall hardware sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 26,441 the week prior.

The hardware ranked three titles in the top 10, including Rockstar Games’ L.A. Noire at No. 1 with 58,436 copies sold.

Infamous 2 for the Playstation 3 ranked as the top-selling game SKU in the latest U.S. retail figures.

NPD Group Inc. this week reported that Infamous 2 ranked as the No. 1 software SKU in June.

Sony Corp. this week said it will invest $20 million in the Playstation Network of the Playstation 3 to produce exclusive game titles for the division.

The company said the three-year, $20 million investment will be used to develop exclusive PSN titles from first-party studios and the Pub Fund – a development cost-matching program to studios that develop exclusive titles for the division.

New titles part of the development plan include Eufloria, Okabu, and Papo & Yo.

Sony Corp. this week said a new model of the Playstation 3 will require an HDMI cable in order to view Blu-ray disc titles.

The company this week told consumer website Ars Technica that the new CECH-3000 series will require HDMI for Blu-ray movie output in high-definition in compliance with AACS standards. It will continue to support component cables for HD gaming and streaming content.

Sony Corp. this month said it will extend the AllClear ID Plus Identity Theft Protection offer to July 31.

The program includes cyber Monitoring and surveillance, priority access to licensed private investigators and identity restoration specialists, and a $1 million identity theft insurance policy per user.

Sony will offer AllClear ID Plus at no cost to PSN and Qriocity users for 12 months from the beginning of registration.

Sony Corp. this week released the ‘Full Circle’ Development Diary for Resistance 3 for the Playstation 3.

The ‘Full Circle’ Diary includes an influence of Ratchet and Clank on the Resistance franchise and a return to ‘Fall of Man’ gameplay for Resistance 3.

Activision Blizzard Inc. this week said the Call of Duty: Black Ops Annihilation DLC will deploy to Playstation Network division of the Playstation 3 and the PC July 28.

The PSP sold 26,373 units for the week to rank at No. 1 in Japan.

Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Xbox 360 sold 2,016 units between July 4 and July 10 to rank No. 7 in overall sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 2,244 units the week prior.

The hardware ranked one title in the top 10 game sales, D3 Publisher Inc.’s Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon at 17,817 units sold.

Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 ranked as the No. 1 best-selling game hardware in the latest U.S. retail data.

NPD Group Inc. this week reported that the Xbox 360 sold 507,000 units in June.

In addition, retail sales for the Xbox 360 platform including hardware, software, and accessories totaled $350 million.

Rockstar Games’ L.A. Noire ranked as the top-selling game title in June U.S. sales figures.

NPD Group Inc. this week said combined sales of the L.A. Noire PS3 SKU and L.A. Noire Xbox 360 SKU sold 419,000 units at June U.S. retail to rank as the No. 1 title for the month.

Meanwhile, the Nintendo DSi LL sold 4,811 units to rank No. 5, the Nintendo DSi sold 4,725 to rank No. 6, and the DS Lite sold 56 units to rank No. 9 in the same period.

NPD Group Inc. this week reported The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D sold 283,000 units to rank as the No. 2 best-selling game on an individual platform.
