Media Create Co. this week said the Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 ranked third in hardware sales in the latest Japan retail activity.

The PS3 sold 26,441 units between June 26 and July 3 to rank No. 3 in overall hardware sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 16,993 the week prior.

The hardware ranked three titles in the top 10, including Capcom Co.’s Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition at No. 2 with 54,924 copies sold.

Sony next week will hold a Summer Sale in the Playstation Network division of the Playstation 3.

Beginning July 12, select PS3 titles will be discounted by 30 percent. Playstation Plus members will receive a 50 percent discount.

Discounted titles include Dead Space Extraction at $10.49, Hard Corps: Uprising at $10.49, Risk: Factions at $6.99, and Scott Pilgrim at $6.99.

Sony this week released the Multiplayer Beta for Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception to the Playstation Network division of the Playstation 3.

Uncharted 3 Multiplayer includes brand new modes, including 3 Team Deathmatch for 2 vs. 2 vs. 2, and Free For All.

Sony this week said the title Resistance 3 for the Playstation 3 will require a new PSN Pass to enable online functionality.

The PSN Pass is a one-time use code that must be used to unlock full online access.

Sony this week restored the Playstation Network and Qriocity divisions in Japan following a security breach in May.

The PSP sold 29,871 units between June 26 and July 3 in Japan.

The PSP go sold seven units to rank No. 10 for the week.

The PSP ranked four titles in the top 10, including To Heart 2: Dungeon Travelers at No. 2, Little Battler Experience at No. 5, Stein’s Gate at No. 8, and Mashiro Iro Symphony: Mutsu-no-hana at No. 9.

Pre-order sales for the Playstation Vita climbed this week at Amazon.com Inc. this week amid building demand for the handheld.

Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 hardware held lukewarm demand in the latest Japan retail figures.

Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Xbox 360 sold 2,244 units between June 26 and July 3 to rank No. 7 in overall sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 2,152 units the week prior.

The hardware did not rank any titles in the top 10 game sales.

The Forza Motorsport 4 Limited Edition will include a 5-Car VIP Car Pack, Cars of Forza Motorsport 4 Presented By Top Gear Book, custom BMW vehicles, and a 10-Car American Muscle Car Pack at $79.99.

Pre-order sales for the new limited edition Xbox 360 320GB Gears of War 3 Bundle climbed this week at Amazon.com Inc. this week amid strong demand.

Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment Inc. this week released a new trailer for Batman: Arkham City.

The new 10-minute trailer includes gameplay of the playable Catwoman character and Batman gliding to the next objective in Arkham City.

Pre-order sales for Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary gained this week at Amazon.com Inc. amid building demand for the HD remaster.

Bethesda Softworks this week said it will release Dishonored to Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3, Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360, and the PC in 2012.

Atlus Inc. this week said it will release the demo for Catherine next week.

The demo is said to introduce users to the main characters, including Vincent and core gameplay to navigate through his nightmares.

Namco Bandai Games America Inc.’s Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 3 is a top bot bash that includes non-stop strategic action and co-op functionality in the Gundam universe.

D3 Publisher Inc. this week released Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon.

The title is a squad-based action title that includes local co-op, three-player multiplayer, and six-player survival mode functionality.


Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii continued to gain in Japan post announcement of the Wii U last month.

Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Wii sold 12,423 units between June 26 and July 3 to rank No. 4 in overall sales.

By comparison, the Wii sold 9,511 units the week prior.

The hardware ranked one title in the top 10, Goldeneye 007 at No. 4 with 36,174 copies sold.

Nintendo Co.’s Mystery Case Files: The Malgrave Incident for the Wii is a decent hidden object puzzler for casual super sleuths. The title allows users to cooperate to find hidden objects and solve a broader mystery.

Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Nintendo 3DS won a tight battle with Sony Corp.’s PSP in the latest retail figures from Japan.

Media Create Co. this week said the Nintendo 3DS sold 30,233 units between June 26 and July 3 to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the week.

The 3DS ranked two titles in the top 10, including Namco Bandai Holdings Co.’s Tales of the Abyss at No. 1 with 74,173 copies sold and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D at No. 6 with 24,190 units sold for the week.

Meanwhile, the Nintendo DSi LL sold 4,963 units to rank No. 5, the Nintendo DSi sold 4,504 to rank No. 6, and the DS Lite sold 138 units to rank No. 9 in the same period.

Nintendo Co. this week said that the Wii U will have a robust online component.

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime told Forbes.com this week that the Wii U will offer a flexible online system to third-party game publishers.

Retailer Amazon.com Inc. this week began pre-order sales for Universal Studios Home Entertainment’s Jurassic Park Ultimate Trilogy Blu-ray SKU.

The Jurassic Park Ultimate Trilogy Blu-ray SKU, to be sold Oct. 25, will include the Blu-ray and Digital Copy of Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, and Jurassic Park III.

The final product will include special features for all three films.

It carries a pre-sale price of $49.99, 37 percent off the $79.98 MSRP.
