Media Create Co. this week said the Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 ranked as the No. 1 console and third in hardware sales in the latest Japan retail activity.

The PS3 sold 16,081 units between June 13 and June 19 to rank No. 3 in overall hardware sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 17,104 the week prior.

The hardware ranked one title in the top 10, including Sega Corp.’s Yakuza: Of the End at No. 3 with 55,775 copies sold.

In the U.S., Inc. this week is offering a $50 Bonus Credit with the purchase of the PS3 160GB Call of Duty: Black Ops Bundle.

Sony in May said the Networked Products and Services division, which includes the Playstation 3 and PSP business, recorded a profit of $492 million in the fourth quarter.

By comparison, the division held a $1.02 billion loss the year prior.

For the fiscal year ending Mar. 31, 2011, the company sold 14.3 million PS3 units, an increase from 13 million one year prior.

The PSP handheld sold eight million units, down 1.9 million units one year go.

The company expects to sell 15 million PS3 units, six million PSP units and four million PS2 units in the next fiscal year.

Software sales increased to 46.6 million units, up 2.2 million from one year go.

Sony in May began sale of the PS3 160GB Call of Duty: Black Ops Bundle, which includes the PS3 160GB hardware, a copy of Activision Blizzard Inc.’s Call of Duty: Black Ops, the Call of Duty: Black Ops First Strike DLC Pack, and a Dualshock 3 Controller at $299.99.

The Limited Edition PSP Entertainment Pack, which includes the PSP-3000 handheld, 2GB Memory Stick Pro, Gran Turismo, and MLB 11 The Show, sells at $199.99.
