Namco Bandai Games America Inc. this week demonstrated Ace Combat: Assault Horizon for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 and Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles.

The current build demonstrated a new Dogfight Mode that offers frantic locked-in firefights against a targeted enemy.

When an enemy is targeted and is in the green reticle, users can press L2 and R2 to initiate Dogfight Mode that will auto-lock to the vicinity of enemy while users adjust their sites and deploy fire.

In addition, users can be locked by enemies in a dogfight that requires an evasive acceleration and turn maneuver.

Firefights were impressive with the intense Dogfight option. Purists can still utilize traditional fight methods a missile lock and bulletfire.

The graphics engine was impressive at 30 frames-per-second with super detailed aircraft, shaky camera effects, superb water effects, and spectacular explosions.

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon will feature a story written by military author Jim DeFelice in which users take the role of a top gun pilot in an international task force.

The title is said to include a new close-range assault system, in addition to single-player and online modes.

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon will be sold Oct. 11 in the U.S. and Oct. 14 in Europe.
