The PS3 sold 23,954 units between Apr. 25 and May 1 to rank No. 3 in overall hardware sales.
The hardware ranked two titles in the top 10, including El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron at No. 3 and Konami Corp.’s Pro Spirits Baseball 2011 at No. 8.
Sony this month said the PSN division will be restored in phases beginning this week.
The restoration will include online gaming across the PS3 and PSP, access to Music Unlimited at Qriocity, Access to Account Management and Password Reset, Access to download movie rentals, Playstation Home, Friends List and Chat functionality.
User game information, including Trophies, Download History, Friends List, Settings, PS+ cloud will all be intact when the service is restored.
To prevent future network attacks, the company it has employed new security measures, including automated software and configuration management, enhanced data protection and encryption, enhanced ability to detect intrusions or unusual activity patterns, and implementation of additional firewalls.
Sony in Feb. recorded a Q3 profit of $564 million in the Network Products and Services division, a 135 percent increase from the year prior.
The PS3 sold 6.3 million units in the in the third quarter, a decrease of 6.5 million the year prior. The company held a target of 15 million units sold by the end of fiscal Mar. 2011.
The PSP sold 3.6 million units in the same period, down from 4.2 million units one year ago.
PS3 software sold 57.6 million units and PSP software sold 16.5 million units in the quarter.
Sony in Sept. began sale of the Playstation Move controller.
